AMTA considers Bill and Minister gives outline of new content services legislation
AMTA is assessing the implications of the Federal Government's new Content Services Bill and plans to make a submission to a Senate Committee considering the Bill later this month. This week the Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, Senator Helen Coonan, gave an outline of the new Bill to the Cybersafety Symposium in Melbourne.
AMTA Conference July 16 & 17
Each year AMTA hosts the pre-eminent event for the Australian mobile telecommunications industry. It gives delegates a unique insight into trends, issues and viewpoints relating to mobile telecommunications in Australia. New technology, new applications, convergence, content, regulation and a federal election are some of the issues that will be discussed at the AMTA Conference in Sydney on July 16 and 17 .
Hearing help for mobile phone users
Minister for Human Services Senator Chris Ellison today visited Australian Hearing’s Cannington office to mark the agency’s 60th anniversary and to launch a new brochure advising people on how to get maximum benefits when using mobile phones. Senator Ellison was joined by Federal member for Tangney Dennis Jensen and Federal Member for Hasluck Stuart Henry.
PM responds to media report of mobile phone jamming during APEC summit
Prime Minister John Howard said emergencies services would not be affected by any arrangements involving the mobile phone networks during the seven-day APEC conference in Sydney in September.
Distracted drivers are dangerous drivers
The Victorian Minister for the Transport Accident Commission (TAC), Mr Tim Holding, this week launched a new public education campaign warning that distracted drivers were putting lives at risk.
Business mobility enhances firms’ decision making on the move
Cellular News reports that competition is pushing businesses towards greater mobility, and companies plan to adopt mobile applications for core business activities - these were two key findings in a recent global survey on business mobility conducted by Nokia and the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) and in cooperation with the CIO Forum.
NRMA uses AMTA’s driving tips on road safety
AMTA’s safe driving tips are being used by the NRMA to promote road safety on its website and they have also been used by the Federal Department of Finance and Administration for all fleet car drivers in the Federal Public Service.
Board your flight by mobile phone
Ubiquitous and well entrenched as mobile phones may be, some potential uses have yet to catch on in a big way. Such is the case with mobile check-in at airports.
