Australians recycle old phones to plant 75,000 new trees
Mobile phone recycling will assist in planting 75,000 native trees to restore and protect the environment, including repairing landscapes damaged from Cyclone Larry in Queensland and protecting the habitat of the endangered cassowary. Key reports outlining importance of mobile telecommunications industry sent to MPs and Senators
AMTA has distributed its economic and social reports to all Federal MPs and Senators to inform them of the key roles the mobile telecommunications industry plays in boosting the economy and assisting people to balance family and work responsibilities.
Mobile phone shipments more than 4.5 million in first seven months this year
The official industry figures show that there were 715,484 shipments of mobile phone handsets to Australia in July 2007. This took the total shipments for this calendar year to 4.54 million.
34 libraries across Brisbane help collection mobile phones
Australia’s largest local government authority, Brisbane City Council (BCC), is a strong advocate of the MobileMuster recycling program. The Lord Mayor has made recycling mobile phones easier for Brisbane’s communities by setting up drop-off points in all 34 BCC libraries this week. BCC has also very actively promoted MobileMuster in the media including TV, regional and local press.
New Zealand beats Australia to 100% mobile penetration, says IDC
According to numbers crunched by Industry research outfit IDC, New Zealand has joined the ranks of mature mobile phone markets with the latest numbers showing there are more mobile phone subscriptions in New Zealand that there are people, Mobilised reports this week.

AMTA Members Forum in Melbourne postponed
The Members Forum in Melbourne next week has been postponed because of changed arrangements for the AMTA Board Meeting.
