Mobile phone industry committed to codes and meeting customer needs
Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy, this week warned the telecommunications industry about what he said were high levels of consumer complaints about services reported to the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman.

New Zealand Police Want Operators to Archive SMSs
Police in New Zealand are seeking a change in the law to compel the mobile operators to archive text messages sent through their networks for crime fighting purposes. Vodafone does not currently archive messages, and Telecom has said that it plans to stop storing them by the end of this year.
Operators want fewer new mobile masts
Admitting they are unlikely to increase revenues as mobile data usage rises, operators say they need to cut costs by re-using existing base stations for new mobile technologies, the GSMA’s Environment Insider reports this week.

New regulations covering the size of telecommunications equipment in New Zealand, and the noise it makes, have been approved and will be drafted, Environment Minister Trevor Mallard was reported in the New Zealand Herald.
