AMTA welcomes the ACMA’s proactive focus on 5G spectrum. The ACMA has outlined its intention to accelerate its usual planning processes in relation to 26 GHz (mmWave) spectrum for 5G. At a Spectrum Tune-Up event on mmWave on 5 September, the ACMA said that instead of issuing another industry consultation paper, it will rely on stakeholder feedback from the Tune-Up session and responses to its Five Year Spectrum Outlook (FYSO) to progress planning for the 26GHz band. The ACMA noted that the majority of FYSO responses had indicated that both 3.6 GHz and 26 GHz should be considered as priorities for pioneer 5G bands. AMTA will continue to engage as the ACMA progresses with its consultation process.
