British man banned from using mobile after fake emergency calls

Cellullar News reports that a British man has been banned from using a mobile phone for five years after he ignored repeated warnings to stop making silent and fake calls to the emergency services. Barry Docherty, 24 from York has already been previously jailed for making 50 silent calls to the police control room in just one hour.

Following his continued actions, the Crown Prosecution Service applied to York magistrates for an antisocial behaviour order, comonly known as an ASBO which imposes conditions on his life if he wants to stay out of jail.

He is now banned from contacting the emergency services save in case of a genuine situation and is forbidden from being in possession of either a mobile device, or a SIM card that could be put into someone else's mobile phone.

A North Yorkshire spokeswoman said: "We are pleased with today's result, the order sends a clear warning of the consequences of wasting the emergency services' time.

"Valuable police time and resources have been taken up by this individual, and he deserves the restrictions imposed on his ability to carry out nuisance and time-wasting communications."
