AMTA Members will have the opportunity to hear the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy, make a significant announcement affecting the mobile telecommunications industry at a Network Forum in Sydney on March 3.
AMTA Chief Executive Officer, Chris Althaus, said Senator Conroy was expected to announce the Government’s policy approach on current spectrum licences at the Forum, to be held at 4-6pm on Wednesday, March 3, in Sydney.
“Mobile operators are anxious to understand the process for treatment of current licences which begin to expire in three years’ time. Certainty in relation to existing licences is essential to broader investment and planning agendas, including consideration of new spectrum in 700MHz (digital dividend) and 2.5GHz bands,” he said.
“Re-issue of licences is vital to the regulatory certainty and confidence needed to plan investments and innovations. We believe the Government understands the key importance of this issue and will outline its framework, which we hope gives more certainty in this vital area.”
Mr Althaus said the Minister’s presence would provide a great opportunity for AMTA Members to hear first hand the outline of the Government’s approach on a critical industry issue.
