Mobile reception – the good, the bad & the ugly

People rely on good mobile reception. However, there is a good way and a bad way to go about improving your coverage.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has released new consumer advice, “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly”, giving information about the use of illegal devices to boost your reception.

The members of the Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association (AMTA) support the ACMA’s awareness program and urge consumers to beware of using illegal devices, which are prohibited or require the permission of a licensed mobile network for use.

There are big penalties of up to two years jail or $255,000 for illegal use and it could get fairly ugly if consumers use these devices, which can cause significant interference with mobile telecommunications networks.
