Last month more than 1 million mobile phone handsets were shipped to Australia – the first time this year that shipments have topped the million mark, according to industry figures.

The Informark figures prepared for the Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association (AMTA) showed there were 1,065,324 mobiles shipped to Australia in November in preparation for the Christmas season. This was 12.6% higher than the previous month.

According to the figures, there were 8,359,769 shipments in the 11 months to November 2009, which was 1.6% up on the same period for the previous year.
