MobileMuster features at Waste & Recycle 2009 Conference in Fremantle.

MobileMuster, the official recycling program of the mobile phone industry, participated in the Waste & Recycle Conference, which was hosted this week in Fremantle by the Waste Management Association of Australia (WMAA), the Western Australian Local Government Association (WALGA) and the Department of Environment and Conservation. The event attracted hundreds of industry representatives from across Australia.

MobileMuster sponsored the topic of E-Waste. Rose Read (Manager, Recycling) presented a paper “Kerbside collections - is this the future of e-waste recycling?”

The presentation discussed the extension of the traditional MobileMuster collection methods (the existing network of drop off points, prepaid satchels and mailing labels), to include mobile phones in community kerbside collections.

Several methods of kerbside collection are being successfully implemented by MobileMuster. Kerbside recycling offers a great opportunity for local governments and their recycling partners to target e-waste, in particular mobile phones.
