The Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association (AMTA) has announced that Matthew Lobb of Vodafone Hutchison Australia (VHA) has been appointed Chair of AMTA’s Board of Directors.

Mr Lobb, VHA’s General Manager, Industry Strategy and Public Policy, joined Vodafone in 2011 after working as General Manager for Industry Engagement at NBN Co from 2009. Mr Lobb also has extensive experience working as a Government adviser to the Minister for Transport and Roads in New South Wales and the Minister for Competition and Consumer Affairs in the Federal Government.

He takes over the role of AMTA Chair from Warwick Bray, Group Managing Director, Telstra Retail, who is retiring after two years as Chair.

Mr Lobb said he was delighted to be taking on the Chair at this point in the mobile industry’s history.

“Smartphones and tablets are transforming every aspect of the lives of Australians, and things are only going to get better.” Mr Lobb said.

“AMTA has a long and proud history of facilitating the collaboration of mobile network operators, handset manufacturers and mobile infrastructure vendors to allow us to leverage the full benefits of the mobile revolution.

“I thank Warwick Bray for his leadership over the last two years and look forward to working with the Board and the AMTA team.”

In addressing the AMTA Board and Annual General Meeting, Mr Bray said: "It's been my pleasure to have been involved in AMTA's journey over the past three years as Chair and I trust the Association will continue to adapt to change and keep serving the needs of its members.

"I encourage AMTA to continue its emphasis on spectrum, infrastructure and on championing the benefits people and the economy can gain through mobile technology."

Mr Lobb is a Rhodes Scholar and has Honours degrees in Economics and Law from the Australian National University (ANU), a Master of Arts from Oxford University and a Master of Science (International Relations) from the London School of Economics.
