10,000 students take MobileMuster Old Phones More Trees Schools Challenge

Ten thousand students from more than 150 schools in NSW, Queensland, Victoria, and the ACT are about to take part in MobileMuster Schools to see how many mobile phones they can collect and turn into trees by World Environment Day June 5

“We have had a great response from primary schools across the eastern seaboard” said Rose Read, Recycling Manager, AMTA

For every mobile handed in for recycling by the schools, Mobilemuster and Landcare Australia will plant a tree. This will add to the 75,000 tress already being planted as a result of last year’s Old Phones New Trees campaign.

Student, teachers and schools will also be rewarded for their efforts with school packs and vouchers to purchase sporting equipment or to support educational or environmental projects.

If each student brings in one mobile phone then 10,000 trees will be planted and up to 4,000 kg of mobile phone components will be recycled and kept out of landfill.

MobileMuster and Landcare Australia are aiming to collect 100,000 handsets and plant 100,000 trees this year.

MobileMuster recycling satchels now available at 4,000 Australia Post outlets

Over 100,000 recycling satchels were distributed this week to Australia Post outlets across the nation as part of a joint MobileMuster and Australia Post initiative to make recycling even more convenient and easy for mobile phone users. Australia Post will be promoting the satchels in-store as well as online and via their catalogues.
