AMTA attends Municipal Association of Victoria’s State Council Annual Meeting

This week MobileMuster attended the Municipal Association of Victoria’s State Council’s Annual Meeting, where over 200 councillors from across Victoria met to discuss and set policy for the coming year. The Meeting provided a significant opportunity for the mobile telecommunications industry to showcase its credentials and engage directly with local decision makers.

Local Councils are an important stakeholder in promoting mobile phone recycling and collecting mobile phones through collection points and, more recently, kerbside recycling collections. MobileMuster, the official recycling program of the mobile phone industry, had an exhibit explaining how MobileMuster can assist councils in educating and providing recycling solutions to their residents.

Manager, Recycling Rose Read said that Councils play a significant role in promoting recycling and collecting mobile phones for recycling. “With nearly 300 local councils now participating in the program, more people are aware of how and where to recycle their old mobile phones”, she said.

“As a result of AMTA’s review of the feasibility of Kerbside Recycling last year, MobileMuster is now offering recyclers and local councils $2 +gst per kg for mobile phones collected through kerbside collections as well as providing assistance in promoting new kerbside collection systems, such as Renew implemented by Moonee Valley City Councils”.

Local councils will also be encouraged to nominate for the MobileMuster Local Government Awards which will be presented at the ALGA’s Special National General Assembly in Melbourne from 8-11 December 2008.
