AMTA partners with peak parent body to promote school safety

AMTA has entered a partnership with the Australian Council of State School Organisations (ACSSO) to disseminate material to assist parents, teachers and students to access mobile telecommunications in a safe and responsible manner in the school environment.

AMTA has joined with ACSSO, the peak council for all parents and citizens groups in Australia’s public schools, to distribute key materials through ACSSO’s networks.

Under the partnership, AMTA will have a dedicated page on ACSSO’s website and will have information on mobile phone use included in its weekly e-newsletters. AMTA will also assist in ACSSO’s teacher training initiatives to familiarize teachers with new technology.

AMTA will be able to provide input via ACSSO on curriculum and other key learning issues in schools.

AMTA Chief Executive Officer Chris Althaus said: “This partnership will assist us to help parents and teachers to access, monitor and manage children’s use of mobile phones.

“It is important to involve parents and help them play a role in an approach using the whole school community to promote cyber safety. Our materials will assist parents play their pivotal role in promoting acceptable use practices for their children while at school.”
