AMTA CEO, Chris Althaus, presented today to the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), RadComms 08 Conference.
The title of AMTA's presentation was “Emerging Business Trends in the Mobile Sector”. Mr Althaus outlined to delegates the demand trends both here and around the world that are driving the growth of mobile data and mobile broadband . He also outlined AMTA’s economic and social research programs which further supported the growth trends being witnessed globally in both mobile and mobile broadband usage.
The RadComms 08 Conference is focussing on spectrum management and planning for the future across all applications of radio communications.
Central to the Conference has been the release of ACMA’s 5 year Spectrum Paper which will now be scrutinised by industry with submissions due in July 2008.
The Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy and ACMA Chair, Mr Chris Chapman, gave keynote addresses to the Conference. In both cases the Minister and Mr Chapman acknowledged the key role telecommunications will play in the ongoing social and economic development of Australia and highlighted the rise of mobile technology and the implications this would have for spectrum management and planning.
Clearly Australia's international competitiveness in an increasingly global market place, will to a significant degree depend upon spectrum allocation and management processes which reflect the core reality that:
