AMTA restates Spectrum needs

This week AMTA attended the latest update from ACMA regarding spectrum option for Wireless Access Services (WAS).

Attending ACMA’s “Tune Up” Conference, AMTA CEO Chris Althaus re-stated AMTA’s strong view that access to the 2500MHz and 700MHz bands for mobile telecommunications was vital to securing the economic growth and productivity gains via the “enabling” role of mobile data and broadband services in both metropolitan and regional Australia.

The ACMA paper outlines further process and conclusions on key bands for use by wireless operators including for mobile operators.

ACMA has outlined its intention to:

Proceed with planning for the use of 3.6GHz band to support mobile broadband in regional areas;

Further investigate the planning and licensing arrangements for re-allocation of 2.5GHz to mobile telecommunications;

Further consideration of the 700MHz band for mobile telecommunications following the cessation of analogue television services.

ACMA’s paper and backgrounder can be viewed here.
