Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association Elects New President

The Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association (AMTA) has elected Lynda O’Grady, Chief of Products, Telstra Technology, Innovation & Product Group as President of the organisation.

Ms O’Grady described her election as a significant honour that occurred at a time when the mobile industry was going through a stage of consolidation after a period of major growth.

“I am honoured to have been elected as AMTA President by my industry peers and now intend to build on the impressive groundwork achieved by our highly energised Board and the previous Chairman, Mr Keir Preedy,” Ms O’Grady said.

“Mobile telecommunications have fundamentally changed the way in which Australians communicate and now play a crucial role in our business and social interactions.

“The industry has evolved from high growth to a more mature industry that contributes more than $5 billion per year to the Australian economy.

“As President, I will work with AMTA to ensure that the industry capitalises on the new opportunities presented by the evolution of wireless technology and does so in a responsible and accountable manner,” Ms O’Grady said.

Ms O’Grady went on to say that she was focussed on fostering the spirit of collaboration that existed between member companies. In the past this alliance had resulted in the creation of Australia’s first mobile phone recycling program and IMEI blocking for lost and stolen mobile phones.

AMTA CEO, Graham Chalker welcomed Ms O’Grady’s appointment.

“AMTA is delighted that Lynda has been elected as the new President as she is highly regarded within the Australian mobile industry and renowned for her work in Telstra,” Mr Chalker said.

Ms O’Grady’s election occurred at AMTA’s November Board meeting. She replaces outgoing President, Mr Keir Preedy.

Also announced at the meeting was the election of the AMTA Vice President Keir Preedy, from Singtel Optus, and Treasurer Rocco Arico, from Alcatel Australia.
