Nearly 990,000 mobile phone handsets were shipped to Australia in November, according to the latest Informark shipment figures.

In November, 988,132 handsets were shipped to Australia following October’s 1.21 million. In the 11 months of 2008, there have been 8,230,384 shipments compared to 8.9 million for the same period in the previous year.

The November 2008 shipments were down 24.8 per cent on November 2007. Last year was a record for mobile shipments with 9.28 million handsets.

The figures are shipments and not sales figures. Some of the handsets brought to Australia are then transshipped to other countries in the region.
