MobileMuster’s efforts to regenerate the environment with its tree-planting program was recognised at Landcare Australia's biennial award ceremony in Canberra last night. MobileMuster Chairman, Chris Mason, was presented with a plaque in recognition of AMTA’s partnership with Landcare in the “Old Phones, More Trees” program, which will plant 175,000 native trees in degraded areas across Australia.
“We are really pleased that this year we collected 100,000 handsets during the one-month campaign – up from 75,000 handsets last year. This means that this will result in the planting of 175,000 native trees in degraded areas across Australia,” he said.
“Our industry has accepted its community responsibility to promote a sustainable industry with MobileMuster. Of course, MobileMuster, which we believe is the only such scheme in the world, would not be possible without our industry members’ support and commitment to product stewardship over the past decade.”
The National Landcare Awards were presented at Parliament House, Canberra, by the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and the Arts, Peter Garrett; the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Tony Burke; and the Shadow Minister for Climate Change, Environment and Water, Greg Hunt.
Mr Mason attended the awards ceremony at Parliament House, Canberra, with AMTA Chief Executive Officer, Chris Althaus, and AMTA’s Recycling Manager, Rose Read.
