Mobile broadband offers users a wide range of business and consumer applications, including email, internet access, multimedia such as video, mobile commerce and social networking. These applications and many more are being sought by consumers for reasons of productivity, connectivity and mobility whether for business or personal needs.

It is estimated that three quarters of internet use will be done from mobile phones within 10 years. Globally mobile broadband users are forecast to grow in number from 181 million in 2008 to 2000 million in 2014, an increase of 1024%.

To meet surging consumer demand for more and faster mobile broadband the mobile telecommunications industry needs to retain access to existing radio frequency spectrum resources as well as gain access to additional radio frequency spectrum to ensure that all Australians will be able to access the latest advanced mobile telecommunication networks and services, when and where they choose.

There are a myriad of examples of mobile broadband in action throughout all sectors of the economy and society including the new frontier of machine- to-machine (M2M) applications.

The video below gives examples of people using mobile broadband to increase productivity, reduce costs and give more flexibility in their daily lives.
