RadComms09 – ACMA’s third conference on spectrum management

The Australian Communications and Media Authority’s third annual conference on the management of Australia’s radiofrequency spectrum, Radcomms09, will offer a unique opportunity to hear the latest developments, future trends and challenges in radiofrequency spectrum management.

RadComms09 will be held at the Australian National Maritime Museum in Sydney on Wednesday 29 April and Thursday 30 April.

‘ACMA sees RadComms09 as a great way to further engage with and stimulate open discussion with the radiocommunications industry,’ said Chris Chapman, ACMA Chairman.

‘We are pleased to announce that the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator the Hon Stephen Conroy will speak at RadComms09.’

Highlights of RadComms09 will include industry and ACMA presentations and a dedicated Q&A session on ACMA’s ongoing vital review of the 400 MHz band used by land mobile services.

‘RadComms09 is very much a platform for stakeholders to discuss, interact and provide feedback on radiocommunications planning and management issues directly with the regulator ACMA,’ said Mr Chapman.

Other topics of interest to be covered at RadComms09 include opportunity-cost pricing, the release of spectrum in the 3.6 GHz band as well as presentations on the 3.6 GHz band from a satellite industry perspective and an ISP perspective.

‘ACMA continues to seek a balance between government and industry perspectives, and we are looking for industry to take the opportunity to present on issues rather than just having the regulator run the agenda,’ said Mr Chapman.

As at ACMA’s previous RadComms conferences, there will be panel sessions at the end of each day providing a platform for open discussion on key issues covered during the day.

RadComms09 will provide opportunities for delegates to directly interact with both ACMA Authority members and staff and their industry colleagues.

The first night of the conference is an informal networking opportunity for all conference delegates at the cocktail reception on board HMAS Vampire docked at the museum.

Limited spaces are available for RadComms09 and early registration is recommended.

Registration details are now available on the ACMA website at www.acma.gov.au/radcomms09.

AMTA Chief Executive Officer, Chris Althaus, will speak at RadComms09 about the digital dividend and the rapid growth in demand for advanced wireless broadband services, such as mobile broadband.
