Rick Wakeham, Chief of Products, Telstra Consumer and Marketing Telstra Corporation Limited

AMTA are pleased to announce that Mr Rick Wakeham, Telstra Corporation Limited has joined the Board of AMTA following the resignation of previous Board member, Mr David Thodey. Rick has been involved in many facets of telecommunications over the past 20 years, including time in the directories business, and a stint with his own dealership in the early days of mobile phones.

This was followed by time with Hutchison Telecoms in their early start-up days in Australia.

Rick joined Optus in early 1992 holding a variety of roles in Channel Management, Manager of the Mobile Line of Business and marketing and sales roles in Business.

In 1998 he joined Intelematics Australia as CEO. Intelematics is a joint venture between the NRMA and the RACV involved in in-car assistance, information and navigation.

In November 1999, Rick joined Telstra as Director Products, Telstra OnAir with responsibility for all mobility products, services and platforms at Telstra. In this role he brought a number of new products to market including the implementation of IMEI blocking across the Telstra GSM network.

In December 2002, he was appointed Chief of Products, Telstra Consumer and Marketing, with responsibility for bringing together operational areas involved with both Fixed and Mobile product within Telstra.

Rick was born and grew up in Melbourne. He studied at the Victorian College of Pharmacy. His interests include his wife and three children, golf, gardening, tennis and wine tasting.
