“Staying Connected” to be launched at AMTA Showcase

AMTA’s new document on the industry’s approach to social responsibility issues, “Staying Connected”, will be released at the Technology Showcase in Canberra later this month.

The 24-page Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) publication will document the range of industry programs and policies that are designed to promote an industry that is:

  • Environmentally sustainable

  • Economically successful

  • Socially responsible and in step with community needs and expectations

AMTA Chief Executive Officer, Chris Althaus, said the document was a timely opportunity to present the depth and breadth of the industry’s programs to assist consumers maximize the beneficial impacts of mobile phones.

“The $14.5 billion-a-year mobile telecommunications industry has a significant and widespread impact on the lives of most Australians. The mobile phone and related services not only have a substantial impact on the economic bottom line by driving productivity through anywhere, anytime connectivity, it also affects our everyday lives,” he said.

“Behind the economic success of the industry, innovation and services, there are the customers who use mobile telecommunications as an important part of their lifestyles and the way they interact with family, friends, work and the community.

“AMTA, on behalf of the industry, has a broad charter to not only promote innovative mobile telecommunications technologies building long-term business success, but also to maximise the beneficial impacts by engaging with the community.

“Our industry also takes measures to minimise the risks associated with the misuse of mobile technology. We believe the positive aspects far outweigh the negative. However, we are committed to providing practical advice to help prevent misuse and promote the safe, responsible and affordable use of mobile telecommunications.”
