Find out about the latest research into the health effects of human exposure to radio fields in homes, schools and workplaces at the Australian Centre for Radio Frequency Bioeffects Research (ACRBR) public forum.
Leading scientists will discuss current controversies and present the latest scientific information relating to the effect of wireless technologies such as cordless and mobile phones, remote controls, baby monitors and LANs on health.
Professor Bruce Armstrong Professor of Public Health and Medical Foundation Fellow at The University of Sydney and an expert in the causes and prevention of skin cancer and melanoma is the keynote speaker. He will discuss the results of the Interphone Study, the largest case-controlled study into mobile phone use and other risk factors for specific tumours.
Results of a survey conducted by Swinburne’s Professor Rodney Croft into the levels of radio frequency exposure in homes running wireless technologies will also be revealed (Snapshot Editor’s note: The Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association funded this study)
And in a live experiment, ACRBR researchers will attempt to cook popcorn with a mobile phone.
The ACRBR is keen to encourage community participation and two national travel awards of $500 each are still available for members of the public to attend the forum. The awards are intended to cover the cost of travelling to and attending the forum.
