Join Home and Away star Lincoln Lewis in MobileMuster’s Guinness World Record attempt to recycle the largest number of mobile phones in an hour across Australia this Saturday at Westfield Chatswood.
The attempt will take place simultaneously across five capital cities - Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth and is part of MobileMuster and Landcare Australia’s ‘Old Phones, More Trees” campaign where they will plant a tree for every mobile recycled by World Environment Day – June 5.
Everyone who hands in their old mobile phones as part of the world record attempt will meet Home and Away star and Logie winner, Lincoln Lewis, receive a MobileMuster gift and go in the draw to win a brand new Samsung mobile phone thanks to Optus. The first 50 people to recycle their old mobile phones also receive a $10 Westfield voucher.
Rose Read, Manager of Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association’s (AMTA) recycling program, MobileMuster, says the Guinness World Record attempt is an exciting and innovative way to encourage Australians to recycle their old mobile phones.
“The world record attempt is strictly for one hour, so I encourage everyone to turn up early to recycle their old mobile phones.
“Not only will you help Landcare Australia plant native trees across the country, but MobileMuster will recover over 90 per cent of the metals and plastics found in mobiles so they can be turned into jewellery, plastic fence posts and stainless steel,” said Ms Read.
Brian Scarsbrick, Chief Executive of Landcare Australia, said they are delighted to partner with MobileMuster for the second consecutive year.
“Our last joint campaign in 2007 was a big success with 75,000 trees now scheduled for planting across Australia, including the Manning Coast, Murrumbidgee, Penrith and Liverpool Plains in NSW, Koaladoors and Port Philip and Westernport in VIC, Innisfail in QLD, Mandurah in WA and Goolwa to Wellington in SA.
“The Guinness World Record attempt is a unique and fun event that promotes environmental benefits. It is a win-win for all involved, as they will have recycled an old mobile phone, helped plant a native tree and participated in creating a new world record,” said Mr Scarsbrick.
The MobileMuster Guinness World Record event will be held at Westfield Chatswood – Centre Court, 1 Anderson St, Chatswood from 1pm – 2pm on Saturday 31 May. The event will be happening simultaneously at 11am in Perth, 12.30pm in Adelaide and 1pm in Brisbane and Melbourne,
If you are unable to be part of the World Record attempt you can recycle your old mobiles, batteries, chargers and accessories at any one of MobileMuster’s 3,000 drop-off points across the country or by picking up a free recycling satchel from participating Australia Post outlets.
