FCC Chairman announces launch of spectrum task force in US

US Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski this week launched a Spectrum Task Force to advance the FCC’s spectrum agenda and promote collaboration across the agency. Julius Knapp, Chief of the Office of Engineering Technology, and Ruth Milkman, Chief of the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau, will co-chair the cross-agency working group.

Cellphone payments offer alternative to cash

You win a bet, but the loser does not have enough cash on him to settle it. If he has a credit card, and most people usually do, there is finally a solution. A number of big and small companies — including eBay’s PayPal unit, Intuit, VeriFone and Square — are creating innovative ways for individuals to avoid cash and checks and settle all debts, public and private, using their cellphones, reports the New York Times in this week’s CTIA SmartBrief.
