AMTA’s Members provide monthly figures of mobile phone shipments to Australia. Informark collects the figures for AMTA and they record the number of shipments, rather than sales.

Australia is a transshipment point.  Some handsets that arrive in Australia are then shipped to other destinations in the South Pacific.

Handset shipments don’t fully translate to sales, however, some economic commentators and analysts use them as a proxy to gauge consumer sentiment trends.
