Mobile myths

The rapid adoption of new technology opens up exciting new possibilities for people in the way they live, work and play. The mobile telephone must rate as one of the most successful technologies ever.

But new technology can create fear of the unknown. People who don’t understand the technology are fearful that it could change their world in ways that are not always predictable. Detractors can exaggerate fears from the potential misuse of some technologies and downplay legitimate uses.

Just as the introduction of the telegraph attracted fears that it would change the weather and trains could cause nervous disorders, a myriad of myths have grown up around mobile phones.

People have the right to raise concerns about new technologies and their potential impact. However, meaningful debate should be based on a firm factual basis.

Mobile phones have attracted more than their fair share of myths. We take this opportunity to debunk the myths and present some facts.
